Coming up for Air

Greetings All,

Whew! It took a while, but I managed to finish up all my judging duties for the Wrangler, the Spur and on the Nebula Novel Jury. I have concluded that three of these at one time is too much! Lesson learned, I suspect, at least until someone starts asking me for this year.

Some very good news in regards to this year's Spur Awards. Over eighty short stories were entered this year, and the anthology I edited with Martin H. Greenberg, Lost Trails, produced two finalists in the short story category. "The Cody War" by Johnny D. Boggs and "The Wild-Eyed Witness" by Lori Van Pelt. That's pretty darn good news and I want to congratulate both authors for contributing such outstanding work. The winner of that category this year was "Crucifixion River" by Marcia Muller and Bill Pronzini. I guess losing to those fine authors means we're in fine company.

I have the notes for a number of reviews to post over the next week or two, so keep your eyes peeled for lots of reviews coming soon, including work by Elmer Kelton, Mackey Murdock and the aforementioned Johnny Boggs.

Regards,

Russell Davis
