Greetings,
There's a new western-related blog riding the cybertrails... Saddlebums Western Review. They'll be doing book reviews, author interviews, essays and more. I've added a link to the sidebar, but just in case you want to click right away, here it is: http://saddlebums.blogspot.com.
It looks like a fine spot to visit, so head on over there and help spread the word.
Regards,
Russell Davis

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
The trailer for the new Jesse James film, based on Ron Hansens novel of the same title. This fall is looking quite promising in terms of western movies.

Them Ol' Summertime Blues
Greetings,
Well, summer is finally winding down and school is just around the corner. Alas, my schedule hasn't slowed very much, but there's some light at the end of the tunnel. So, some news items worthy of attention first...
1) The remake of the classic western film 3:10 to Yuma is scheduled for release this September. Starring Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, the early rumblings are very positive. I'll post the official trailer on this blog in just a bit.
2) Set for an October release, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, starring Brad Pitt, Mary-Louise Parker, and other notables, also promises to be a good flick. I'll add the trailer to this one to the blog as well.
3) I'm a judge for the Spur Awards this year and books have already started arriving in the mail. I'm in the Best Western Short Novel category, so I anticipate having a lot to read over the coming months.
4) The stories for my next western anthology have started to trickle in. This one will feature stories about ghost towns, and I'm very excited about it. I think it will be a good lineup, so keep watching this blog for more information about that.
5) On a more personal note, I've discovered a couple of things this summer... First, I'm not young enough to keep up with twenty-some-odd eight and nine year old football players. I played for a long time and am one of the coaches for my son Mason's team this year. If I could only bottle and sell that kind of energy. Second, I'm not a gymnast anymore, either. Last week, while breaking a new colt, I came out of one stirrup and the saddle and decided (in those long, slow milliseconds of time that pass while you're in the air) that I could just do a simple backflip and land on my feet. I was WRONG. I'm alive and well and the worst of it was the bruising to my pride, but still...
Guess that's about it for now. In the meantime, take care and look for more book reviews coming soon.
Regards,
Russell Davis
